summary: Microsoft is retiring Skype, and users can preserve their account information and chat history through its data-export service. The process involves signing in with a Microsoft account, choosing the data categories to request, submitting the export, and returning later to download the prepared archive. The post notes that the export service remains available until January 2026, so former and current users should retrieve needed records before then.
